Lodging in La Jolla and the surrounding area is very expensive. We have negotiated a block of rooms for workshop participants at the following two hotels.
1. Residence Inn San Diego - La Jolla. This is a 20-minute walk from the Natural Sciences Building. (Directions)
80 Studio King rooms have been blocked for the nights of March 24 - 28, 2019 (latest checkout March 29). (For early arrivers, 10 rooms have also been blocked the night of Sat., Mar 23), at the government rate of $174/night plus tax.

2. Best Western Hotel Del Mar. This is a 30-minute bus ride (#101) to the Natural Sciences Building. (Directions). The hotel also has a complimentary shuttle to UCSD available, which will depart for UCSD every morning at 8:30 am (and also 7:45am). There will be a returning shuttle on Mon and Wed at 5:30pm.
We have negotiated a group rate of $159.99/night + tax for single rooms or $179.99/night + tax for a double room.

Transportation:
Participants are highly discouraged from driving a car to the UCSD campus. If you stay at the Best Western Del Mar you can take the #101 bus which stops a block or two from the hotel and from the workshop venue, or use the hotel shuttle. From downtown La Jolla, you can take the #30 bus. Day passes can be purchased for $5 on the SDMTS app on your smartphone. (https://www.sdmts.com/fares-passes/compass-cloud). [warning: do not activate your purchased day pass until the day you intend to use it.] Alternatively, you can pay cash for single rides — $1.75 for #101 or $2.25 for #30. Note that the bus driver does not have change.
Participants are highly discouraged from attempting to park a car at the UCSD campus. The current parking fee is $30/day. The good news is that the conference is during spring break, so you can actually find a parking spot if you buy a parking permit.
