Travel

Berkeley Lab is located in the San Francisco Bay Area in the hills above the UC Berkeley Campus. To access the Lab, we encourage the use of public transportation in combination with LBNL's shuttle bus.

The Bay Area is served by several international airports. San Francisco International Airport (SFO, the main airport) and Oakland Airport (OAK, a bit closer than SFO but mostly domestic flights) are the closest ones.

Arriving at SFO:

At the SFO BART station, take a Red Line (Richmond) train to to the Downtown Berkeley BART station. Alternatively you can take a Yellow Line (Antioch) train to the 19th St. Oakland station and change to an Orange Line (Richmond) train to the Downtown Berkeley BART station.

Arriving at OAK:

The Oakland Airport BART station is located just across from the Terminal 1 baggage claim area and a short walk from Terminal 2. At the Coliseum, take an Orange Line (Richmond) train and exit at the Downtown Berkeley BART station.

From downtown Berkeley to LBNL:

Monday through Friday, between 6:15am and 8:44pm, the Berkely Lab Shuttle Bus (Blue Route) is the most convenient way to come to the Lab. To use the Lab Shuttle, you need a photo ID plus either a printed confirmation of your LBNL Guest House reservation or a visitor pass, which will be e-mailed to you before the PDG meetings based on your registration.

When the Lab Shuttle is not available, you can take a taxi (parked around the BART station area).

Other transportation (Lyft, Uber, ...):

See information on other ground transportation options.

By car (discouraged due to shortage of parking at Berkeley Lab):

Directions for driving to Berkeley Lab can be found here. If you stay at the Guest House, you are allowed to park in Lot Z, located across the street from the Guest House.
