Abstract: I will describe my work to develop medium resolution thermal microwave kinetic inductance detector (KID) arrays for x-ray astrophysics applications. MKID principle of operation, science opportunities for this kind of detector, detector design, fabrication, testing and data analysis will be discussed. As this is a work in progress, I will highlight current challenges in the detector development. At the end, I will briefly describe another work in progress to make a fiber fed high resolution spectrometer which uses a photonic circuit to disperse the light and an MKID to detect it with single-photon sensitivity.
