LBNL has a small but high-impact portfolio of projects that leverage core capabilities built up for the lab's science mission to support the US government's security agencies. A high-level overview of LBNL's National & Homeland Security Office which coordinates these efforts will be provided. Following this overview, the projects related to radiological security supporting DOE NNSA, DHS, DNDO, and DoD DTRA and DARPA will be highlighted to provide a flavor of the largely radiation detection based capabilities that are applicable in this space. These projects are aimed at advanced capabilities for wide area search/stand-off detection, cargo security, advanced detector materials and concepts, and advanced gamma-ray imaging. In addition, many of these integrate contextual information to provide capability beyond the limitations of 1/r2 and variations in background radiation.
