Description
Overview of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s N Program Related Efforts
LLNLs newly formed N Program, under the leadership of Brad Wallin, is LLNL’s focal point for non-stockpile nuclear security related research, development and nuclear emergency response operations. Within the current organization are program areas that focus on understanding the threat (Technical Nuclear Counter Terrorism), monitoring the threat (Proliferation Monitoring), containing the threat (Nonproliferation, International Security and Safeguards), supporting interdiction of the threat (Nuclear Detection and Countermeasures R&D), preparing for and responding to emergencies (Nuclear Reachback and Response Operations as well as the National Atmospheric Release Advisory Center), and supporting the investigation (Technical Nuclear Forensics). As part of a collaborative information exchange, this presentation will briefly describe our new organization, how we execute, and will describe LLNL's portfolio of DHS nuclear counterterrorism related work.

Overview of Sandia National Laboratories Radiation and Nuclear Security Program
Sandia has historically organized along funding sources—that is, there are different program managers for each different funding agency. As a result, Sandia’s radiation and nuclear detection capabilities are widely distributed across the laboratories. Although this model is effective for managing internal work, it can present a barrier in forming new external collaborations. This talk will present an overview of Sandia’s broad program and identify the names and contact information by funding agency relationship. Additional detail will be provided about one of our programs, the Nuclear and Radiological Security Program (NRS) that comprises all of Sandia’s work with DNDO. The talk will also provide a high-level description of some of Sandia’s unique facilities and capabilities.
